PRIVACY
Whether you’re looking for additional privacy panels on your outdoor living space or designated work areas in the home, privacy is of the utmost importance this year. While much of the world has returned to working in the office, there are still those of us opting for a hybrid or fully remote style. This can create schedule and space overlap with other members of the household, leading to an increased need for private spaces. Open-concept plans are still popular amongst homeowners, but now feature more intentional designs when it comes to spare rooms, lofts and outdoor spaces.
MULTI-GENERATIONAL LIVING
There has been a large push over the last few years to incorporate multi-generational living into plan designs. From elderly relatives to adult children staying in the nest, it’s important to consider these needs at the start of the design process when building a new home. During quarantine, many of us were in lockdown away from loved ones which added an extra level of stress to the family. With multi-generational living, loved ones are mere steps away rather than hours.
TECHNOLOGY
What is going to continue as a trending mainstay, technology, is everywhere in a new home. From ‘smart’ thermostats to touch sensor faucets and even responsive appliances, technology is more embedded into new construction each year. ENTERTAINING
When was the last time you went to a catered party at a house? It’s probably been a while but no more – entertaining in the home is back and better than ever. With so many of us staying put in our homes, jobs and cities over the last year, we had to find new ways to entertain, and this has changed the way we design our homes. Introducing the working pantry – a hallway-sized secondary prep space often behind or adjacent to the kitchen. Working pantries allow for all mess to stay out of site whenever hosting a dinner party or event, taking the stress away from homeowners and letting the focus stay on togetherness.
BUILDING EXPERIENCE
We’ve all heard the horror stories from relatives and friends about the process of building a new home – but what about the good experiences? With a combination of technology and truly getting to know a builder, the building process has become a less stressful and sometimes is even a fun process.
