Interior design trends can vary from coast to coast, but what’s making an impact this year? From colors of the year to trim, let’s take a look at interior design trends for 2022.

SUBTLE GREENS

Paint giants Sherwin Williams, PPG, Behr and Benjamin Moore have determined the colors of this year as shades of green. In recent years, we’ve seen an influx in jewel tones of navy but the transition into the realm of greens makes absolute sense. Homeowners are looking for subtle hues that exude calm. Green is a transitional color that can include cool or warm tones, allowing for a creative versatility when pairing to furnishings or decor.

SCANDINAVIAN STYLE

A main design feature in our upcoming Home-A-Rama 2022 showcase home, Scandinavian design has been increasing in popularity over the last few years. With simple lines, maximizing natural light, contrasting colors and a dedication to hygge, it’s no surprise that this style is coming to the forefront of interior design. Expect to see a combination of white walls, natural wood tones and nature-inspired décor in this style.

EXTERIOR TRIM

A decade ago, exterior trim seemed almost like an afterthought during the design process. Matching the trim and gutters to the body color was the obvious choice, to help those features ‘disappear’. Not anymore. Homeowners today are daring to stand out with dynamically colored exterior trim. Whether you’re selecting an opposing color to the main color or a new tone all together, trim is turning into a statement piece.

PRIMARY BATHS

While kitchens have historically been where the most money is spent when designing a home, primary baths are quickly becoming a more popular investment. From soaking tubs to heated tile floors, there are so many customization options available. One of the features we’ve seen popping up in clients’ homes are mirrors with lighting components, whether it’s built-in or backlit. Additions of an accent wall of tile or wallpaper combined with greenery can create a relaxing oasis for homeowners.

At Old Town Design Group, we’re happy to have our own in-house architectural designers help our clients through the design process. By utilizing an in-house team, clients are able to receive timely answers to questions, design updates and are able to work directly with the source of their home design.
